We have a great appreciation of this large and luxurious Malibu Estate.  The wines are long aging and benefit from the coastal influence - this area is wonderful for Bordeaux varietals (Cab, Merlot and Other) and a STAR producer of Chardonnay!  The property makes for an amazing day!  Yes, the Malibu fires destroyed the tasting room on PCH but this Estate was not harmed.... and we want to celebrate this amazing destination with you as we did so many years ago.... this is our great return to Rosenthal.  Historic Library wines will be tasted as well as new wine releases that were scheduled for the tasting room.  The food will be abundant and fit for all dietary needs.

Rosenthal The Malibu Estate Vineyard was most recently and notably featured in the hit Netflix show Love on the Spectrum – Two of the cast members (Abbey & David) along with their families came to the vineyard to film a very special segment for them – it was Abbey and David’s 3rd anniversary of dating (they both have autism and met 3 years ago on this show – they are definite fan favorites).  I was the host and poured the wines for them and had a decent amount of air time on the show.  You can see our segments in Season 3, Episode 7 at 18:43 into the episode for about 3 minutes and then again the vineyard is featured at 38:00 in for another 3-4 minutes segment.  Some of the clips have been blowing up on TikTok – I will have to send those clip links over separately – if you are on TikTok, you can search for “Abbey and David Love on the Spectrum Vineyard” and a bunch of clips should show up.  The tasting room area and the overall vineyard area featured in the show will be a part of our upcoming June 1st tour – so perhaps that is a hook?  I will be one of the hosts of this June 1st event as well!

Established in 1987, Rosenthal – The Malibu Estate was the first vineyard planted in Malibu. Nestled just four miles from the Pacific Ocean at an elevation of 1,450 feet, the 28-acre estate enjoys a unique microclimate ideal for producing exceptional grapes.

Rosenthal holds the rare distinction of having its own American Viticultural Area: Malibu Newton Canyon A.V.A. Wines made from grapes grown in this mini-microclimate are found nowhere else in the world. In fact, to bear the Rosenthal label, a wine must be crafted exclusively from grapes grown on our Malibu estate.

Our G Collection wines feature a blend of estate-grown grapes and carefully selected varietals from other top California vineyards, allowing us to explore unique and distinctive expressions. Similarly, our Surfrider label gives us the freedom to source the best grapes from across the state, while maintaining the same level of care and craftsmanship that defines all Rosenthal wines.

The Wines: As Ian mentioned, we will be pouring a wide selection of Rosenthal – The Malibu Estate wines including some unique and rare library wines from George’s private collection.  I need to get confirmation on the exact vintages we will be able to pour and need some time to finalize that – I am hoping we can get this set up prior to the final wine selections and we can update the event site when I have that information.

"The Rosenthal Estate wine is the only venture I've put my name on in 60 years of multiple company businesses." -- George Rosenthal

George Rosenthal started out in business in 1955 when he founded Raleigh Enterprises, a small general contracting firm focused on developing single family residences. The business grew quickly and today the company is a diversified real estate investment and operating company. An international industry leader, Raleigh encompasses 15 wholly owned subsidiaries, including The Sunset Marquis in West Hollywood; Raleigh Film & Television Studios, worldwide; Hollywood Rentals; File Keepers, Inc; and, of course, Rosenthal - The Malibu Estate.

Yet even with all his success, George had never felt quite so fulfilled from an accomplishment as when he tasted his first Malibu vintage, the 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon, and Rosenthal - The Malibu Estate was born.

Amy Bergrud has been an integral part of the winery for 28 years, serving as General Manager for the past 14. Working closely with owner and proprietor George Rosenthal, Amy oversees wine operations and plays a key role in crafting the blends and selecting additional grapes that complement the estate's offerings. Together, they ensure the exceptional quality of the Rosenthal – The Malibu Estate, Surfrider, and G Collection wines that you'll enjoy at this event.
