Appellation is the place the wine comes from. Some wines are named after their Appellation (example Chianti, Champagne, Bordeaux) and some wines are named after the grape variety that dominates the wine (ie. Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot)

There are many DOCG areas – each with different grape types. Let me know what area your referring to, and I can find the grape type. Best. Ian
